Why We Support Research

Melanoma is one of the most aggressive and potentially fatal cancers worldwide, with a high risk of spreading if not caught early. For Jordan, the founder of Crown Cover, his survival story is a powerful reminder of why skin cancer research matters. Without the life-saving treatments made possible by research, Jordan might not be here today to share his experience.

Thanks to the relentless work of doctors, scientists, and researchers, we’ve seen incredible breakthroughs in melanoma treatments, offering hope for better survival rates. In other words, this progress is a testament to the funding dedicated to research and clinical trials and the dedication of doctors, scientists, and researchers alike.

A Journey Toward a Cure: Your Support Makes the Difference

Our founder, Jordan Hauck, was given a second chance at life through a clinical trial. He understands firsthand that the path to a cure begins with organizations like the one we support. The Cancer Bucket Foundation is committed to giving back and supporting cancer prevention that leads the way in groundbreaking research and awareness.

Since helping to establish the Cancer Bucket Foundation in 2022, we’ve been dedicated to raising funds for innovative melanoma research. In partnership with the University of Iowa Center for Advancement, our mission supports the development of new treatments that can save countless lives.

One of our key initiatives is the Safe in the Sun 5K/10K run, held annually in Ames, IA, each spring. This event unites our community to raise funds and awareness for melanoma research and skin cancer prevention. With your participation, we can continue to advance cancer research and offer hope to those battling melanoma.

Every donation counts and every step taken at our 5K/10K brings us closer to a cure. Join us at the May 2025 Safe in the Sun Run and in the fight—together, we can make a real difference!

BE AWARE

Part of Crown Cover’s mission is to promote skin cancer awareness. It’s important to know what causes skin cancer. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are the leading cause of melanoma, which is the deadliest type of skin cancer. We all love spending time outdoors, and it’s important to know how to protect your skin from the sun while enjoying life outdoors.

Sun protection should be used year-round and that different types of sun protection should be combined. Whether you are mowing the lawn, watching a ballgame, walking, or being active outdoors, you should make sun safety a habit to avoid sunburns and reduce your chance of getting skin cancer.

Please see our “Skin Cancer Statistics“, which provides information provided by the Skin Cancer Foundation. More people in the U.S. are diagnosed with skin cancer every year than with all other cancers combined.

HELP PREVENT

Sunscreen is a great first step in skin cancer prevention. Did you know there’s another easy way to stop sunburns? UV protective clothing and headwear are scientific ways to protect your skin from harmful UV exposure.

Crown Cover sells UPF 50+ hats, which block 98% of harmful UV rays. Explore how this innovative clothing works and why it’s a smart choice. Some non-UPF fabrics may block only up to 30% of UV rays or less. Even though you may not get a visible sunburn, you may still get skin damage from harmful UV rays.

Wearing a UPF hat outdoors is a great way to help prevent skin cancer and aging. Hats are a great first line of defense against skin cancers, as many skin cancers will occur on the face, scalp, neck, and ears. We also recommend broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 30 SPF on all skin-exposed areas and UV-blocking sunglasses for eye protection.

FUND RESEARCH

We donate a portion of every Crown Cover product sale directly to our foundation The Cancer Bucket, to support skin cancer research initiatives.

Cancer research donations provide critical humanity and economic returns and are needed to improve lives now and for future generations. Crown Cover is committed to advancing cancer research to enhance lives today and for future generations.

CREATE COMMUNITY

While cancer treatment often focuses on medications, hospital care, and visible treatments, one of the most powerful elements in healing is the supportive community that surrounds you. Crown Cover understands that cancer doesn’t just affect the body—it affects the mind and spirit. That’s why we believe in the importance of creating a strong, compassionate network of support for those navigating their cancer journey.

A community of friends, family, healthcare professionals, and fellow patients provides essential emotional support, encouragement, and understanding. It fosters a sense of belonging, reduces feelings of isolation, and helps individuals feel empowered throughout their treatment.

By creating a community, we help patients not only survive cancer but thrive through the journey, with the strength of others beside them every step of the way. Join us in building a network of care, compassion, and connection.
